Tres Cruces (Paucartambo) and Chimur

Tres Cruces (Paucartambo) and Chimur

This is the best experience I’ve ever had so far.

July 31st 2021, we left on Saturday as we planned to see the sunrise from Tres Cruces on Sunday. We left at 4 in the afternoon approximately. The way to Paucartambo is always a memorable one, as I had been through this place twice because its beauty always makes it special.

Once in Paucartambo, we stopped to have dinner and draw on to take pictures of the place which is always beautiful. After a while, we decided to set up for our adventure. We left Paucartambo at approximately eleven at night to be able to get to Tres Cruces and sleep there while waiting for the long-awaited sunrise.

The road to Tres Cruces is unique. Once we stopped to check one of the cars which seemed to have a mechanical problem. After some minutes of trying, we found and fixed the problem and then went towards the darkest place to look at the sky and witness the Milky Way, what a beautiful thing! I still have that image in my head.

We continued our journey and arrived at the entrance of Tres Cruces. Once inside the park, we could see a beautiful orange moon, which gave us a unique greeting and spectacle, it was amazing! so we stopped to take some photos and meditate on its beauty. After some minutes of driving, we also stopped on the road to sing Diego’s birthday as It was August 1st already, and also to celebrate Pachamama’s day.

This trip was preparing something special for us, we knew it. After some minutes we found the parking area and settled down to sleep. It was funny to see how everybody pretended to rest inside the cars as they were kind of uncomfortable. I could sleep for two hours approximately and then I left the car to go to a place which seemed perfect to appreciate the sunrise.

Over this hill, I found Diego who couldn’t sleep either, so we both started to appreciate the horizon. Out of the blue, the horizon became orange, announcing that something unique was about to happen. I ran to wake up everybody and went back with Diego. We wait for half an hour approximately, and then an orange twinkling round-shaped light appeared over a blanket of white clouds. I couldn’t believe it, It was the sun greeting the Earth, as it was its day and greeting us. It was so special, I felt blessed. I walked barefoot, felt the earth under my toes, breathed deeply and meditated on it.

This spectacle lasted for some minutes and then everything became illuminated. It was a very enriching moment. Once back in the car I fell asleep like everybody in the cars for an hour approximately and then we decided to go to Chimur.

The road to Chimur was rough but absolutely beautiful. We felt as being anywhere else but Cusco. We took the chance to stop and have lunch, get off at some stops and take pictures. After a couple of hours, we arrived at the doors of Chimur. There we found an ancient pedestrian bridge that I wanted to cross but couldn’t because it was almost destroyed and the cliff was terrifying. We also found an archaeological site.

We drove the way up to the village of Chimur and then to the hot tubs. Once in the tubs, I felt very relaxed and could not believe what an experience we just had. On the way back home we decided to take another route through Amparaes and then Calca. Some of the locals told us to return by the same way we had come, through Paucartambo, because the road to Calca was very tough, but we wanted to experience all that.

A very long and tough route in fact, but it was worth it.
