Paro (Parccotica) y Cerro Huamantica, Anta

Paro is my father’s land, the place where granny and grandpa live. It’s a beautiful green place in the highlands, a place of beautiful childhood memories. I remember walking for about 5 hours to get there when I was a child, I also remember riding a horse and my dad pulling it. What nostalgic memories!

This time I got two days off from work, so decided to visit the place and my father who continuously go there to look after my grandparents. We left relatively early in the morning and went with some uncertainty because we’d driven there just once before and it was a long time ago. This time it was only Guina (my sister) and me.

We arrived in Paro and stopped in a place asking for my dad because there was no phone signal. Fortunately, we found him, went to the house and greeted everybody. Granny always receives us with lots of kisses, she’s so sweet. We had lunch, talked a little bit, picked up the cattle, had dinner and went to sleep at approximately eight at night because everybody sleeps very early here.

I slept in a very peculiar bed, with sheep leathers as a mattress. The following day we woke up very early and went to take the cattle back to the place we found them yesterday, so they can feed. We also took the chance to get milk from three of the cows who had their calves. We had a great breakfast with fresh and warm milk.

After having breakfast we dared to go to Apu Huamantica. The way up didn’t seem too complicated, because we settled in the middle of the path, as my grandparents live there. We took pictures of the whole route and when we were above the summit, we had a breathtaking view of the entire place. We could see Parccotica and also Chinchaypujio which is the capital town of this region and part of Apurimac. What a nice sensation, is in this kind of places that one disconnects to entirely live the present.

We returned home and after having lunch and having talked to granny and grandpa, with a deep nostalgia we said goodbye.
