Pacchanta – Ausangate (Ocongate)

Pacchanta – Ausangate (Ocongate)

Our friend Victor invited us to Ocongate, which is one of the twelve districts in Quispicanchi, Cusco at 3533 m.a.s.l. First, we drove to the town which has the same name and stopped at the market where we had breakfast and had the pleasure to meet Victor’s granny. Then, we left for Pacchanta which is a place at 4200 m.a.s.l on the skirts of the fifth highest peak in Peru, The Apu Ausangate.

Pacchanta is known because of its hot tubs where one will be able to enjoy the water coming from the same Ausangate, which is pretty cold and the warmest and most relaxing bath. Being there, with a beer on hand contemplating the Apu Ausangate is an absolutely unforgettable experience.

The only thing I didn’t like about going there is that we were asked to pay a fee on two different occasions. The first one when getting into one of the towns on the way to Pacchanta and the other at the entrance of Pacchanta. We had the perception that there was a conflict between these two different communities due to the income perceived.
