Seven Lakes Ausangate, Cusco

Seven Lakes Ausangate, Cusco

If you look at the southeast of any part of Cusco city you’ll be able to appreciate covered in snow, the majestic Ausangate Mountain that with its 6385 m.a.s.l. is the highest mountain in the Cusco region and the fifth-highest in Peru. Now, have you ever imagined yourself walking just at its foot and the breathtaking picture you could get from this experience? It will absolutely blow your mind.

We’ve already been to Pacchanta before and promised to come back because we were told about seven lakes we could find in two hours’ walking. We couldn’t miss it, so this time we departed at 08:00 am from Cusco driving our vocho car and arrived in Pacchanta at 13:00 hrs approximately. There we had lunch and rested a bit before starting our trek to this wonderful place.

On the way to Seven Lakes

We left Pacchanta at 14:30 hrs approximately. On the road, we found locals every certain stretch of the way up selling bottles of water among other things. They also provide horses to travellers who due to altitude or tiredness might need some help. Although the entire road is properly signposted, It is always advisable to go in a group.

The entire path is full of beauty. We could appreciate lots of camelids walking around, the typical vegetation of the highlands and overall the fascinating Vilcanota mountain range highlighting among them the impressive Apu Ausangate. Looking at it is absolutely breathtaking.

Finally, we arrived at the promised lakes, in fact, we found more than seven. Their beauty is unique and to be at the foot of the Apu Ausangate makes it an even more memorable experience

All in all,

the whole trek took us one of the best five hours ever. Some of us dared to swim in one of the lakes and felt the embrace of Apu Ausangate and its cold but blessed waters. We ended up our tour in Pacchanta and its warm and relaxing waters, an unforgettable experience. What are you waiting for knowing this amazing place?
