Killarumiyoc and Yanacocha

Killarumiyoc and Yanacocha

And there it lay Killarumiyoc, the sacred Incan Moon Temple, welcoming us to a new great adventure that would lead us to a hidden magical place in the highlands after seven hours of walking. Getting there was not an easy thing, but certainly, a journey not to forget, claimed Thiaggo, a courageous ten-year-old kid who found in every adventure a unique challenge. Be welcome to Yanacocha Lagoon II.

Unlike

the first Yanacocha lagoon in the Sacred Valley, this one is located in the highlands of Huarocondo, providing its hydric resource to the towns of Sambor, Huarocondo, Zurite and Anta.

The starting point

was in the Incan temple of Killarrumiyoc, located in the district of Ancahuasi and province of Anta at 3440 m.a.s.l. It is considered to be a sacred place where it was celebrated ceremonies with offerings to the moon.

On the way up,

we witnessed a stunning view of the plain of Anta and on the horizon the highest mountains in the region.

Finally,

we got to the point that we were looking for after approximately four hours of walking. We couldn’t stop to delight the beautiful sunset that was about to happen, because we needed the sunlight in order to continue our way to our destination, which at that moment wasn’t any clear.

The dusk

had fallen down on us and gave us a spectacular farewell by depicting a colourful sunset, with tones of yellow, red and blue, certainly a precious moment.

We continued our walk

in the dark for a couple of hours until we reached the Yanacocha Lagoon. Initially, we hadn’t planned to get there, actually, we shouldn’t have reached the place, because we were supposed to be heading for Ollantaytambo, taking another route. Well, the fact is that none of us was sure of the path we should’ve followed. It was an exploring adventure though.

We spent the night

camping close to the lake, so we could use of its waters to prepare our breakfast. We tried to build a Pachamanca oven and cook some potatoes in there, so we could eat them with delicious slices of cheese. It never worked. We didn’t know how to cook it properly and took out the potatoes raw. However, it didn’t stop us to enjoy the lake and its surroundings.

It was a marvellous morning

full of laughs and collaborative work. We enjoyed it so much! However, it was already time to return to where we belong. The way back wasn’t easy either. It took us approximately six hours to arrive in Huarocondo.

All in all,

the pictures clearly depict the wonderful places we went through which in turn show us the lots of beautiful landscapes that Cusco has to offer to those who dare to adventure in their beautiful lands. Despite the fact that we could not complete successfully reach our destination, we carried with us a great experience in our hearts and the still pending adventure of getting to Ollantaytambo.
