The X Zone, Q’enko forest and the San Blas Caves

The X Zone, Q’enko forest and the San Blas Caves

Do you imagine yourself walking through a dark underground cave and feeling the uncertainty of not finding a way out? or perhaps running into an unexpected surprise along the way? If you’re a claustrophobic or a fearful person this might represent a true challenge for you, but if not, certainly you’ll really enjoy it. Welcome to the X Zone.

The X Zone is located to the north of the famous archaeological site of Sacsayhuaman. In fact, it is believed that this area was once the stone quarry where the Incas carved and extracted the stones that would build the majestic Sacsayhuaman, there are traces of it everywhere.

We started our walk in the Eucalyptus forest of Q’enko where we found a pretty interesting archaeological site. There we laid down, relaxed, and took the time to take some amazing photos.

Nice place right?

After that, we followed a beautiful green path in the middle of a forest that would take us to the X Zone.

We were taken aback by the unique place the X Zone turned out to be. A hill of limestone with passageways that reminded us of those of a natural labyrinth, full of beauty. To be honest this was the first time we’ve been there.

Absolutely a unique experience. We found two main tunnels. The first one, just at the entrance, is a pretty, rustic and illuminated one and the second, a more mysterious, one of those of a horror film.

After such a breathtaking experience, we headed home. On our way, we found the San Blas Caves with an impressive view of a part of the city of Cusco in the middle of the neighbourhood with the same name. The caves seemed to be somehow neglected, but still didn’t lose their charm.

Cusco is a place full of magic, beauty and mystery and the X Zone, the Qenko forest and the Caves of San Blas reaffirm it. Don’t you think so? I’m pretty sure we will be able to find more in the following days. So, what are you waiting for to meet them?
