Silkinchani, Cusco

Silkinchani, Cusco

The Cusco district of San Jerónimo has always surprised us with beautiful scenarios and experiences, such as our visit to the Suncco Waterfall or our adventure cycling up to the Huanacaure mountain. On our last trip to the Seven Lakes Ausangate, we saw what seemed to be pre-Incan buildings over a pleasant green space at the exit of the city and proposed it as our next destination and so we did. Join us to discover the amazing surprise San Jerónimo had this time for us.

Silkinchani is an archaeological site located in the southeast of Cusco city and belongs to the district of San Jerónimo. Surfing on the internet I couldn’t find enough information about the place, though it seemed to be a pre-Incan and Incan agricultural deposit.

To get there, it’s possible to take any local transport. We took the Línea RTU-01 Patrón de San Jerónimo bus and got off at the bus stop “La Encantada” in the limit of San Jerónimo and Saylla, walked to the right side of the road and immediately saw this beautiful archaeological site located at ten minutes walking from the bus stop.

Once there, we took the chance to walk on bare feet around the area and enjoyed the sunlight, an amazing sensation. We also enjoyed the view of the city. We felt so relaxed that we fell asleep for a certain time.

After that, we ventured ourselves into a path we found in the place to see what else we could find. After having walked for about forty minutes to the south we found a cliff delimiting the end of the road. It really felt good to be lost in the right direction I suppose.

Nevertheless, as luck would have it, we found a path that would take us up the hill and would give us a memorable surprise.

On the way, we found a small water stream and took off our shoes to soak our feet. It was a phenomenal sensation. We also found the summit of the hill and saw Cusco city and the Valley where Saylla, Tipón and Oropesa extend. Absolutely an amazing view.

All in all, I’ve never thought to find such a memorable experience walking through this place. I’ll totally recommend it if you look for a place to escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Cusco has lots of unique places to visit and enjoy, don’t you think? what are you waiting for going there?
